Silent Night

The sight of those night views gives me a strong feeling of wonder. I realized that as long as I open up my eyes and look around my surrounding, the usual environment can be just as interesting and meaningful. Reflecting, I should be more observant about my surrounding and look at things in a different perspective instead of focusing on my phone all the time. As an art student, I should apply what I have observe in my surrounding, and translate it into my artwork or apply it into my creative process during school.

Lesson - Force thinking

For this lesson, we learned to combine two different objects to create a brand new object by using the 'SCAMPER' method. After brainstorming a few ideas, my favourite one is to transform the iPad into  a grilled pan which uses the natural heat produces by iPad to heat up food and items anytime and anywhere. It is not only portable, it is also multifunctional and convenient especially during travel. I lack the confidence and skill to transform some ideas into practical objects and this exercise has helped me to overcome this issue. In addition, I used to be scared of improvising because I do not know how to substantiate my ideas with the appropriate knowledge. However after this lesson, I learned a methodical way to convert my ideas into reality. As such, I hope to fully utilize "SCAMPER" in my future artwork so that I can bring my artwork to the next level.

Analogies Thinking

We practiced those quizzes during the lesson, and these are the quizzes that I lack an understanding in the meaning of the words used. The main obstacle was that I could not really understand some of the vocabularies used, and therefore I am unable to deduce the relationship between the two words. Reflecting, in order for me to get the quiz correctly I have to understand the meaning behind the words. I should research on information from another source to help solve the problem at hand. From this exercise, I understood the objectives of analogies thinking and I will apply the essence of analogies thinking in my creative process.

Haze

During this season of the year, Singapore will usually be affected by severe smoke haze due to forest in the region periodically. Unwittingly, it brings a brand new perspective to many of the common scenes in Singapore. The blurry landscape caused by the haze creates a never before seen atmosphere to many landmarks. For instance, the usual street at my neighborhood has a sinister atmosphere caused by the haze. Even though the haze is detrimental to health, it made me realized that a filter is able to instantly change the atmosphere of a photo. As such, I will make sure to reflect that in my photography projects in the future.

Human Characteristics

Hope
A sight of bright hope contains inside those jars.

Despair
A voice full of self-hatred and despair created by those dark lyrics.

Anxiety
Unease and overwhelming feeling by looking at those polaroid.

Anger
The unyielding roar of the undead phoenix.

Surprise
A store with everything but something unexpected may appear.

Fear
An equipment that symbolizes fear, sorrow and darkness, unforgotten memory of war.

Angry
The sharp villainous metallic brunches represents angry emotions.

Jubilant
Happy and positive vibes from the colourful and soft smiling toys that will brighten up your day.

Depression
The lonely dark ball lying in the dark by itself.

Aversion
The strong dislike of feelings of the whole artifact.

I am a very emotional person, and after exploring 'Human Characteristics', I have learnt better ways to express my feelings. That is beneficial for me as I will be able to better communicate with others as well as express myself in my artworks in a more sophisticated way. This practice thought me to see things from different angle and appreciate the essence of every artwork. And perhaps discover them in totally different possibilities of feels and emotions. This is not only beneficial for me as an art student but as wise and creative person.

SG 50

As we advance into a new political era and the next chapter in the history book of our country, I couldn't help but to ponder on what is sacrificed at the expense of economic growth and progression. I feel that our distinct local culture is slowly losing its presence in Singapore. But sometimes, in the face of the risk of losing our unspoken identity, it propels us to rediscover our true identity, acknowledge it, and push it forward as we move towards the next SG 50.

Coffee Shop Uncles

Such developed country, Singapore, my home. It's economically successful, if they ever saw themselves still working at such an age in this scope.

Then I wonder if the same would happens to me, by chance or otherwise.

Expression of Human Emotions

We had to sketch pen, clock and candle to covey various human emotions. I have learnt to express my feelings better. Emotions, in my experience, aren't covered by single words. It's more like an expression, I don't really believe in "sadness," "fear,""angry,""anxious,""depressed." I have never had the right words to describe them in my life, but now that I have entered my way of expression, I need them more than ever. I have learnt new ways to vent my emotions and express them in my drawing as  a fine art student.
