Breaking the Rules in Fine Arts

Brazilian artist Harding Meyer breaks the rules for painting classic oil paintings by incorporating a touch of abstract and highly expressive quality in his paintings.

Despite the ripples and disruptions incorporated, his painting still retains an extraordinarily human touch and realness, as well as a profound sense of mysteriousness.

Reflecting, I lack of such imaginative skills and I should work on improving my skills.

Artist Stephen Wiltshire manages to recreate the skyline of New York just by after a twenty minute helicopter ride across the city. His impressive ability to commit even the smallest detail to his memory and his talent in realism drawing has allowed him to complete such an amazing task. This is definitely a rule breaker as one can only hope to possess such talent and eye for detail.

Reflecting, his patience and commitment to detail is something I have to learn from as I feel that I lack of such skills.

Artist Janine Antoni pushes the boundaries and combines painting with performance art to product an ultimate art piece. Instead of using conventional art mediums such as paintbrushes or markers, she uses her hair, together with ink, as a tool to express herself.
The creation process was also available for observation as a performance, which allows the audience to appreciate the live mood and emotions of the artist through her movements.

Reflecting, her complete dedication to her art is something worth learning and I should also strive             to display such dedication in my artwork.

Artist Keira Rathbone employs an unconventional art medium, the typewriter, to produce realistic drawings and portraits. Despite using a difficult tool, she manages to break the rules and recreate the intricate tones, shades, details and textures of a photo through a typewriter. This is not an easy feat at all as she is limited to letters, numbers and punctuation for her paintings.

Reflecting, the sheer amount of creativity displayed in her artwork is admirable and I should strive to explore unconventional methods of art.

Artist Pascual Mimbela breaks the rules by choosing to create his artwork in an unexpected environment. Equipped with scuba diving gear, he paints his oil based artwork underwater, and gets his inspiration and reference directly from what he experiences underwater. This is definitely an unique and better way to produce artwork related to the oceanic surroundings.

Reflecting, his innovating ways of producing his artwork has truly reached the next level and I should aim to produce artworks using innovative ways.

Korean Seed Tea

Tea brings comfort to me like a warm hug and it made me realize that sometimes comfort does not necessarily need to come from human contact.

Bee

The hard working bee who does all of the hard work but gets none of the credit. We should not do work without attaining some form of recognition.

Nightmare

I didn't want to wake up from my sleep.
Because, I realize that the real nightmare isn't the one that is in my dream, is in fact, reality.

Calm

The sea looks calm on the surface but it is turbulent underwater. This reminds me of human mood, as they may look calm on the outside but conflicted on the inside.

Lesson

The key of this lesson was to protect our raw egg from cracking as a group. My idea was to cut the straws and form the air compression wall and cushion with thick layers of tissue paper, then put the protected egg into paper cup and sealed it with scotch tapes. The result was fantastic, as our egg remained unscathed. Reflecting, I realize that we should not overlook ordinary materials as when they are capable of doing much more when they are used in a proper manner.

The Printer

This is an ordinary multifunction printer with an edit function, and sometimes I wonder what would happen if our life is similar to a printer. If only we are able to achieve all our goals that we project in our minds with a deadly precision like a printer replicating an image, and if we make any mistakes in life, we are able to 'reprint' and amend our imperfections.

From A Different Angle

If you look at something from a different angle, you look at it from a different point of view. Some of the more absorbing photographs are often ordinary things viewed from a different perspective. As this picture depicts simply just pedestrian fences, but if you look at it from top angle and be more creative. It could be a letter "Z". Therefore, to raise new possibilities, new question, to regard old problems from a new angle, require wild imagination and think creatively.

The Gray Area

Sometimes beneath that delicate smile, you never really know what's inside anybody sometimes you believe what seems true to you, you can never really understand who you are with. A picture can tells so much of a moment i believe is a fantasy. A fantasy is created to let us hide within its shade just like an umbrella. The only person you can trust is yourself because you can never betray yourself. Sometimes humans just want to satisfy their craving for companionship. Wouldn't it be great if we could live in the moment forever? Maybe if it weren't for Adam and Eve, we could still live in a world without negative energy. And we will really have a taste of real peace and harmony.

This is "The grey area".
