Breaking the Rules in Fine Arts
Brazilian artist Harding Meyer breaks the rules for painting classic oil paintings by incorporating a touch of abstract and highly expressive quality in his paintings.
Despite the ripples and disruptions incorporated, his painting still retains an extraordinarily human touch and realness, as well as a profound sense of mysteriousness.
Reflecting, I lack of such imaginative skills and I should work on improving my skills.
Artist Stephen Wiltshire manages to recreate the skyline of New York just by after a twenty minute helicopter ride across the city. His impressive ability to commit even the smallest detail to his memory and his talent in realism drawing has allowed him to complete such an amazing task. This is definitely a rule breaker as one can only hope to possess such talent and eye for detail.
Reflecting, his patience and commitment to detail is something I have to learn from as I feel that I lack of such skills.
Artist Janine Antoni pushes the boundaries and combines painting with performance art to product an ultimate art piece. Instead of using conventional art mediums such as paintbrushes or markers, she uses her hair, together with ink, as a tool to express herself.
The creation process was also available for observation as a performance, which allows the audience to appreciate the live mood and emotions of the artist through her movements.
Reflecting, her complete dedication to her art is something worth learning and I should also strive to display such dedication in my artwork.
Artist Keira Rathbone employs an unconventional art medium, the typewriter, to produce realistic drawings and portraits. Despite using a difficult tool, she manages to break the rules and recreate the intricate tones, shades, details and textures of a photo through a typewriter. This is not an easy feat at all as she is limited to letters, numbers and punctuation for her paintings.
Reflecting, the sheer amount of creativity displayed in her artwork is admirable and I should strive to explore unconventional methods of art.
Artist Pascual Mimbela breaks the rules by choosing to create his artwork in an unexpected environment. Equipped with scuba diving gear, he paints his oil based artwork underwater, and gets his inspiration and reference directly from what he experiences underwater. This is definitely an unique and better way to produce artwork related to the oceanic surroundings.
Reflecting, his innovating ways of producing his artwork has truly reached the next level and I should aim to produce artworks using innovative ways.
